Leatherman Wave Plus Tools
Pliers
The pliers are accessed by unfolding the handles. The jaws feature fine teeth for extra grip, while the tip is precise enough for delicate tasks—such as adjusting fishing hooks or removing splinters. The back of the jaws is rounded, making it easier to maneuver in tight spaces or bend wire. The pliers are equipped with replaceable wire cutters, allowing the cutting edges to be sharpened individually or swapped out for new ones once they show significant wear. The wire cutters are also capable of snipping small twigs and plant stems. A reliable pair of pliers proves useful more often than you might expect!
Plain-Edge Blade
The drop-point blade is crafted from 420HC stainless steel. This grade of stainless steel contains a higher carbon content than standard 420 steel, helping the blade retain its edge for longer. The blade shape is well-suited for virtually any cutting task. It can be easily opened with one hand from the outside of the tool, thanks to a built-in thumb hole. The sharpened edge measures approximately 7 cm in length and is ground at a 15-degree angle. Because the blade is only 2.5 mm thick, it offers truly excellent cutting performance.
Serrated blade
This blade is also crafted from 420HC stainless steel. It features a robust tip, thanks to its 'sheepsfoot' shape—a design that doesn't taper to a fine point, allowing the cutting edge to be better supported by the spine. This blade profile is particularly well-suited for opening boxes, a task further aided by the serrations. Additionally, the serrations are highly effective for cutting fibrous materials, such as rope. The sharpened edge measures approximately 7.5 cm in length, with an edge angle of 16 degrees. The spine of this blade is also about 2.5 mm thick.
Wood saw
The sturdy teeth cover approximately 6.5 cm of the saw blade, making it capable of handling branches up to the thickness of a human wrist. The saw itself is thin—the spine is about 1 mm thick, while the teeth measure 1.2 mm. Because the spine is narrower than the teeth, the saw is less likely to get stuck in the wood, as friction is kept to a minimum. Beyond green wood, this saw also makes quick work of pallets and wooden boards. Whether you are gardening or tackling DIY projects, the Wave is an incredibly useful tool!
File
The file is dual-sided. One side features a diamond coating, which is handy for quick touch-ups—such as sharpening an axe while out in the field—though its coarse grit makes it less ideal for sharpening knives.
